Darron “Farmer D” Joffe had an epiphany. All around he saw young people with higher levels of isolations, loneliness and depression despite being omni-connected at all times. From his work, Farmer D knew that the lessons of farming are the lessons of life. Delaying instant gratification and putting in the planning and hard work for a prosperous future. Dealing with adversity, setbacks and vagaries of Mother Nature. Yielding a rich harvest and beginning again. And perhaps the most important, breaking the relentless cycle of screens that preoccupy our thoughts, dreams and relentlessly consume our time.

So Farmer D wrote Citizen Farmers. And turned an idea into a movement. Part Bildungsroman, part polemic, part playbook to build community and provide a sense of purpose and belonging, Citizen Farmers represents a new, powerful antipode to digital dystopia.  A return to the land in the most fundamental sense to allow young people to uncover timeless lessons, revel in real accomplishment and ultimately make a positive impact on the world.
